Cutting Board and Charcuterie Care Instructions
Your board will last for years with proper care and conditioning.
HAND WASH both sides of the board evenly with warm water and mild soap. Wipe the cutting board dry with a clean cloth and stand the board up on edge so that both the top and underside are fully exposed to air flow to dry. Never submerge your cutting board in water or place in a dishwasher because this will cause it to warp and crack.
OIL THE BOARD when the wood starts to look dried out. Use a generous layer of food-grade oil (we recommend butcher block oil) to both sides, top, bottom, and any groove following instructions on the oil bottle. Wipe off the excess after it soaks in. Leave the board sitting on its edge overnight so the oil can dry. This important step helps repel food particles and liquids as well as staining, cracking, and warping.
AVOID vegetable or nut-based oil for the simple reason that it will spoil and become rancid. This will leave your wood with an unpleasant smell and change the taste of foods in contact

OPTIONAL
WAX: After the oil has been applied, you can add a food-grade wax such as butcher block wax. If you prefer a natural alternative, beeswax-based products are safe options and smell fantastic! This creates an extra barrier to help the wood retain moisture.
DISINFECT using vinegar. Acetic acid (white vinegar) is an excellent disinfectant for E. coli, salmonella and other household bacteria. Spray vinegar on the wood cutting board, let sit for a few minutes, then wipe with a clean cloth.

DEODORIZE with salt and lemon. Simply rub a generous amount of coarse salt into the surface of the board with a half a lemon. Do Not do this on any epoxy components as this can scratch the surface even though epoxy is quite hard.
WARPING may happen as wood expands and contracts. The best way to prevent this from happening is to keep your cutting board dry and frequently oil your board with food-grade oil. Unfortunately, even a perfectly maintained board can warp due to several factors such as change in humidity, storage, and usage. If your board warps, you can reach out to us for tips and tricks.

Live edge wood refers to wood that retains the natural, unaltered edge of the tree it came from. Instead of having a straight, uniform edge, live edge wood showcases the outer perimeter of the tree’s trunk, including the bark and the irregular contours that result from the natural growth of the tree.
This style of woodworking highlights the organic and raw beauty of the wood, preserving its natural characteristics. The live edge can be on one or both sides of the wood slab, and it may include knots or other unique features that contribute to the wood’s aesthetic appeal.

Dimensional lumber is wood that has been cut and milled to standard straight lengths. The natural edge next to the bark is cut off to produce straight lines.

This style of wood, for example, is good for cutting boards or tables where clean, smooth edges with a uniform appearance is desired.
Depending on the project, we can certainly make replicas. If ordering in bulk, it is easier to get similar items since the wood would be bought at the same time and place. Wood grain, colour, and features like knot holes are very hard to duplicate so if you see something you like, we will try our best to replicate it, but it’s not always possible since wood is a wonderful substrate which comes in all types of variations.
